After a series of successful demonstrations, a number of companies within the packaging, corrugating and paper converting sector purchased Jarshire Reel-savers to restore 3", 6" and 8" ID cores on old or damaged reel stock in 2011. These customers reported making big savings straight away, with one even reporting payback within just five minutes! Packaging material that once had to be put to one side because of damage to cores sustained during transit or on-site handling can now be back in the production stream within minutes. Pneumatically operated, the Jarshire Reel-Saver's tapered jaws are simply inserted into the damaged core and, at a flick of a switch, they expand to return the core to its original shape. It is as simple as that. Jarshire say that, since their introduction in 1995, over 300 Jarshire Reel-savers have been purchased. For more information call 01753 825122, email

New Covent Garden broke new ground in FMCGmarketing last year by enabling consumers to decide the future development of one of its best-selling lines, the popular Soup of theMonth range. In doing so, the fresh soup specialist aimed to create the world’s largest online community of soup fans, working with leading socialmedia agency Fresh Networks. Eachmonth, members of the online community are invited to submit new recipe ideas based on a pre-selected theme which reflects the time of the year. Recipes are then voted for online. New Covent Garden then produce eachmonth’s preferred recipe and sell it in specially-designed soup of themonth cartons featuring a picture of the winner. Nigel Parrott, New Covent Garden Food Co. groupmarketing director, says the ‘people’s soup’ idea complements New Covent Garden’s wide-ranging NPD and recipe development programme. The New Covent Garden Food Co. specialise in fresh soups and pasta saucesmade fromthe freshest ingredients. For more information call 0113 248 0606 or visit
