1. Start by pointing your browser to NASA’s “Eyes on the Earth” page, available under Study Resources for Module 4 in the Investigate section of Logistics at PolarHusky.com.
At the start page, you will see a graphical depiction of NASA’s satellites in orbit. To see them moving in real time click the “Real Time” button located on the lower right-hand side of the screen. Click “Exit Real Time” to return to the main screen.
Student Page 4-7.3a
>> Click “Oceans” at the navigation at the top of the screen. Then click “OSTM,” the name of the NASA Satellite collecting ocean data.
>> Click “Show data map” on the right-hand navigation. This will layer the globe with the data on sea levels and load the explanatory video.
>> Click to play the video and hear the explanation of this map.
>> Using the cursor and your mouse, you can spin the globe to any place you choose. The zoom controls in the upper left-hand corner allow you to move in closer to the earth’s surface. Clicking the light bulb in the left-hand navigation bar allows you to switch off the “sun” and illuminate the globe more evenly.
Switch off the data map and rotate the globe until you find the ocean nearest to your location. Now switch the data map back on. What are sea levels like in your “neighborhood”?
>> Next click “Atmosphere” in the top navigation, then “Aqua” in the second navigation bar. Click “CO2” in the right-hand navigation under “Show Data Map.”
When the video loads, press “Play” to listen to mission details. Again, find your location and zoom in. How are CO2 levels in your area?
