Animals in the Arctic have evolved unique adaptations that help them survive cold air and water temperatures. You have already explored some of these adaptations in class. Now it’s time to discover some of the science behind these adaptations.
You and your partner have been assigned to one of the following experiments:
Experiment 1: Warm Blood Out—Cold Blood In! Experiment 2: Swimming in Blubber Experiment 3: Skinny versus Chunky (Part I) Experiment 4: Skinny versus Chunky (Part II)
Note that Experiments 3 and 4 are linked. You can still perform these separately and compare results after the experiment.
When you and your partner have finished your experiment, you will join three other sets of partners, one pair from each group of experiments. You and your partner should be prepared to explain your results to the group and to help them understand how the principle behind your experiment helps Arctic animals survive. You’ll also hear about each of the other three experiments.
