Teacher Notes 1-4c
Traditionally when the Inupiat were on the move, the poles for the itchalik were tied on top of the sled and pull by people and dogs— just like Team GoNorth! is doing with their tents today.
The tent used by Team GoNorth! is a Keron GT tent made by Hilleberg the Tentmaker and is modeled after traditional Arctic dwellings.
Team GoNorth’s tent uses four poles that are arched as each end is slid into a “cup holder.” This design relies on the strength of arches and buttresses just like an Itchalik.
