Electronic Assembly: OLED Displays with Serial Interface

Gilching, Germany — The highly popular Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) is now available on Electronic Assembly OLED text displays. The deployment of serial data transmission continues to increase and SPI expands the range of applica- tions of the displays. A broad and ever-expanding range of SPI-enabled components and microcon- trollers is available on the market and the SPI bus is now being designed into many applications. In theory, there is no limit to the number of displays and nodes that can be attached to the SPI bus. The bus has three shared bus lines (MOSI, MISO and CLK) as well as a CS (Chip Select) line. Previously, the advanced text displays avail-

able in ice white and yellow/green were only sup- plied with a 4/8 bit data bus. All displays have a built-in controller similar

to the HD44780 and run on a single 3.3 or 5V sup- ply. Current consumption is very low — 15 to 50mA. Four character sets including special characters are already stored in the character ROM: English/Japanese, English/Russian

PIAB Boosts Gripping

Performance for Bag Lips

Hingham, MA — Piab has introduced the next generation of piGRIP® bag lips, known as “BGI”. These lips include an internal retainer piece as well as three additional diameter sizes. The bag lips are especially suitable for handling different types of bag materi- als, especially hard-to-handle thin bag material, such as plastic film. The six diameter sizes now at 25, 34, 41, 48, 63 and 80mm provides a larger range of sizes for choosing the exact cup for the handling application. The first generation piGRIP bag

lips “BG” were developed to handle most types of bags and pouches much better than any other available suction cup on the market. The special lip design in combination with the rigid and strong piGRIP bellows/body allows for bag handling speeds and accelera- tions never before possible in automa- tion equipment for bags/pouches. Beside regular plastic bags for

(Cyrillic) and two different Western European character sets. Users can also define up to eight of

their own characters. Different functions can easily be programmed

with a single command: Clear Display, Cursor Home, Cursor on/off, Cursor blink and Shift Display. Example code is available on the home- page. All OLED displays will run over a wide oper- ating temperature range (–40 to +80°C). The company offers nine different versions of

its text OLEDs: EA W082-XLG with 2 x 8 charac- ters (5.5mm high); EA W162, six versions with 2 x 16 characters (5.5mm and 8.9mm high); EA W202- XLG with 2 x 20 characters (5.5mm high); EA

W204-XLG with 4 x 20 characters (5.5mm high). Contact: Electronic Assembly GmbH,

dry food such as chips, the new piGRIP bag lips were designed to have an excellent grip on stand-up- pouches filled with liquid or dry/wet food/substances. The range of diameter sizes now

allows for very small and/or oblong narrow flexible packages (fast-food ketchup packs) to be handled by the smallest 25mm size. The largest size, 80mm, addresses the need for han- dling heavy bags or sacks such as animal feed sacks. The lip material and the retainer piece are made of

FDA approved materials. Contact: Piab, 65 Sharp St.,
