Page 27 Goepel: Shadow-Free 3D Measurement

Jena, Germany — The AOI systems of the OptiCon family made by Goepel electronic extend their di- mension with a new measurement technology that has evolved to become the “3D Series”. The first OptiCon Advanced Line 3D with

telecentric measuring for three-dimensional view- ing of components and solder joints represents a significant technology leap in terms of area-wide height measurement. The disadvantages of con- ventional 3D methods include such problems as shadowing caused by high components — now a thing of the past. The sensor module called “3D EyeZ” is based

on a Telecentric Multi Spot Array (TMSA), which measures the height of assemblies and solder joints by movable scanning. Due to the orthogonal and telecentric projection and viewing direction, error-free measuring is possible even in the gaps between the closest of components. In

Corelis JTAG Test System Assists in Air Force Readiness

Cerritos, CA — Corelis, Inc.’s Scan - Express family of products has been selected by the U.S. Air Force as an attachable component in the Versa- tile Depot Automatic Test Station (VDATS) program to meet current JTAG requirements. VDATS is an enterprise test so-

lution employed by the Air Force and Department of Defense which pro- vides Air Force customers with a common core Automatic Test System (ATS) test and repair solution that is flexible to accommodate future and expanding customer requirements. The VDATS program is de-

signed to replace specialized test equipment that has become both dif- ficult and expensive to maintain. It also aims to improve test efficiency, reduce the logistic footprint, and re- duce the overall cost of ATS infra- structure. VDATS is completely mod- ular and reconfigurable to support multiple aircraft and weapons sys- tems.

Once a failed component is sent

to the depot for repair, VDATS pro- vides diagnostic capability to isolate and repair component malfunctions. It also allows technicians to verify serviceability and return a compo- nent to air force supply to keep mis- sion equipment operating. The Corelis ScanExpress software and JTAG hardware connect the VDATS platform to JTAG interfaces on sup- ported systems for non-intrusive electrical test and debug. Corelis, Inc., a subsidiary of

Electronic Warfare Associates, Inc., offers bus analysis tools, embedded test tools, and the industry’s broad- est line of JTAG/boundary-scan soft- ware and hardware products combin- ing exceptional ease-of-use with ad- vanced technical innovation and un-

matched customer service. Contact: Corelis, 13100 Alondra

addition, this technology guarantees the independ- ence of surface properties of components, solder joints and the PCB. Even though this technology represents a

leap forward, the 2D inspection tasks of a standard AOI system, solder volume, wetting angle, height and coplanarity of components can still be meas- ured by all systems in the OptiCon family. The 3D EyeZ also provides freely selectable

X/Y resolution as well as a maximum measure- ment speed of 70cm2/s. The integration is possible both in-line systems and in the well-known stand-

alone AOI system, the OptiCon Basic Line. Contact: Goepel electronic LLC, 9737 Great
