From the volcanic slopes of Cappadocia to the ‘frozen waterfall’ at Pamukkale, Turkey is a country of contrasting landscapes and immense cultural riches. We visit the cosmopolitan city of Istanbul, explore the ancient site of Troy and white marble streets of Greco-Roman Ephesus. Our journey also takes us along the ‘Turquoise Coast’ of Lycia and to the beautiful golden sands of Iztuzu Beach.
15 day tour itinerary
Day 1 Join tour Istanbul. Day 2 Istanbul Tour the city including the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace and Hippodrome. Days 3/4 Ankara Cross the Bosphorus and drive to Ankara, the capital city. Visit the Museum of Anatolian Civilisations and the impressive mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the inspirational founder of modern Turkey. Continue towards Cappadocia and visit the Hacibektas Museum (Monastery). Day 5 Cappadocia We spend a full day exploring the volcanic landscapes of Cappadocia, including the underground city of Kaymakli and the Goreme Open Air Museum of ‘fairy chimneys’ and rock-cut churches. Option to take an

early morning hot air balloon fl ight over the area. Day 6 Konya Travel to one of Turkey’s most holy cities and visit the Mevlana Museum, the original lodge of the Mevlevi Whirling Dervishes. Travel to the lakeside town of Egirdir. Days 7/8 Kas Visit the ancient town of Olympos and take a walk to Chimaera (the eternal fl ame). Continue to the harbour town of Kas and enjoy a free day to relax on the Turkish Riviera. Options include a boat trip over the sunken ruins of Kekova and sea kayaking. Day 9 Dalyan Travel by boat to the ancient city of Caunos, explore the ruins and travel on through the reed beds to take a dip in the turquoise sea at Iztuzu Beach. Day 10 Pamukkale
Admire the spectacular, white travertine terraces covering the hillside at Pamukkale. Visit the ancient site of Hierapolis. Day 11 Aphrodisias Visit the impressive ruins and museum at Aphrodisias. Day 12 Ephesus Discover the magnifi cent Greco-Roman seaport of ancient Ephesus. Option to take a Turkish bath. Day 13 Pergamon and Troy Explore the remains of these ancient cities. Day 14 Gallipoli Take a ferry across the Dardanelles Strait to the Gallipoli Peninsula and visit the World War I memorials. Return to Istanbul. Day 15 Tour ends Istanbul.
