On this off the beaten track safari we explore the prolifi c gamelands of southern Tanzania, visiting its two biggest and most remote national parks: Ruaha and Selous. We fl y between parks to maximise the time spent in the reserves and we search for the prolifi c wildlife that inhabits the area including hippo, elephant, lion, wildebeest and crocodile. From our comfortable eco-lodges nestled in the national parks we observe wildlife and take game drives on open safari vehicles as well as boat and walking safaris. Along the way we interact with the locals in small villages, visit the Stone Age pillars of Isimila and sample local tea in the Mufi ndi Estate. We end our tour spending a few days relaxing by the untouched coast of Lazy Lagoon, an isolated paradise with coral reefs, mangrove trees and tropical forest.
11 day tour itinerary
Days 1/3 Ruaha National Park Join tour Dar es Salaam and fl y to Ruaha. Spend three nights at a eco-lodge near the Great Ruaha River, an ideal location to watch wildlife drinking at the river’s bank. Enjoy game drives in the park tracking elephant, mongoose, greater kudu, waterbuck, leopard and the rare migrant Eleonora’s falcon. Days 4/5 Tea estate Travel to Mufi ndi. Sample the local tea and take a tour in the plantation. Visit the Stone Age

pillars of Isimila, Iringa town, and the Neema Crafts centre as well as a local village and an orphanage. Optional activities include horse riding, golf, fl y fi shing and croquet. Days 6/7 Selous Game Reserve Fly to Selous Game Reserve. Search for elephant, giraffe, lion, wildebeest, hippo and crocodile from your accommodation on the banks of Rufi ji River. Enjoy walking and boat safaris in Selous, Tanzania’s largest game reserve Days 8/10 Lazy
Lagoon After a morning game drive, we fl y to Lazy Lagoon, a nine kilometre deserted beach surrounded by patches of tropical forest and mangroves. The optional activities include snorkelling, kayaking or a tour of Bagamoyo. Day 11 Spend the morning relaxing on the beach and transfer to Dar es Salaam where the tour ends.
