Tour essentials Pyramids, temples and Nubian culture of Sudan’s Nile Valley


Travelling through the scenic Nile Valley and into the desert we uncover Sudan’s unspoilt cultural and historical heritage. We visit well-preserved sandstone temples, tombs engraved with images of the pharaohs and the many pyramids of the Royal Necropolis of Meroe. We also experience the warm hospitality of the Nubian people and stay in a traditional village house.


12 day tour itinerary


Day 1 Join tour Khartoum. Day 2 Khartoum Visit the tomb and museum of the Mahdi, Sudan’s Islamic former leader. Eat lunch overlooking the Nile. Drive to the souks of Omdurman and visit the archaeological museum. Days 3/4 Pyramids of Meroe Our base has great views of the complex of the Royal Necropolis. Explore the pyramids and discover the partially buried ancient city.

Days 5/7 Karima Drive through the black basalt mountain scenery of the Bayuda Desert to Karima, Nubia’s religious heartland. Explore the temples, tombs and holy Jebel Barkal Mountain. Days 8/9 Nubian adventure Visit the market in Karima. Take a boat up the Nile into the central Nubian region; walk along the river’s beaches and visit the tiny islands. Explore the Pyramids of Nuri and experience desert


hospitality in a traditional Nubian village house. Day 10 Old Dongola Drive south past sand dunes and palm trees to visit two Coptic Christian temples. Days 11/12 Tour ends Khartoum.
