Following the ancient trade route through the South Caucasus we explore the fascinating history and culture of Armenia and Georgia. In Armenia we visit the Echmiadzin, Gelati and Haghpat Monasteries and the 14th century caravanserai on the Selim Pass. In Georgia we explore the streets of Tbilisi, visit Stalin’s birthplace and journey along the Georgian Military Highway to Kazbegi in the heart of the Caucasus.
16 day tour itinerary
Day 1 Join tour Yerevan. Days 2/3 Yerevan Explore the monasteries of Echmiadzin and Gegard and the Roman temple at Garni. Day 4 Amberd Fortress Walk up the slopes of Mount Aragats to the fortress for views of Mount Ararat. Visit the village of Oshakan. Visit the Matenadaran Library. Days 5/6 Lake Sevan Drive along old silk routes to Lake Sevan. See the impressive Selim Caravanserai, the best preserved in the

country. Discover the traditional town of Dilijan and the Haghpat Monastery. Day 7 Tbilisi Visit the museum, Church of Metechi and Sioni Cathedral. Explore the city’s twisting alleyways and experience the diverse culture. Days 8/9 Kutaisi Visit ancient Mtskheta and drive to Kutaisi to visit the Gelati and Motsameta Monasteries. Days 10/11 Cave city Drive to the mountain meadows of Bakuriani and explore the nearby cave city of Vardzia.
Days 12/13 Caucasus mountains Drive along the spectacular old Georgian Military Highway to Gudauri. Walk to the impressive Church of the Holy Trinity. Days 14/15 Georgia’s winelands Visit a winery and farmers market in the Kakheti region; have lunch with a local family. Day 16 Tour ends Tbilisi.
