With this enticing trip to Sri Lanka we enter the spiritual world of Buddhism. We travel to the region known as Buddha’s Island to uncover ancient statues, rock carvings and gilded temples. Other highlights include the tea plantations, the ancient highland town of Kandy and an idyllic tropical coastline. Along the way we are welcomed by generous hospitality and friendly faces. We also join pilgrims making an ascent of sacred Adam’s Peak, reaching the top for sunrise.
15 day tour itinerary
Day 1 Join tour Negombo. Days 2/3 Leopards and Buddhas Take a jeep safari in search of leopard in Wilpatu National Park. Explore the World Heritage Site of Anuradhapura and visit Mihintale, Sri Lanka’s cradle of Buddhism. Day 4 Dambulla Caves Visit Aukana’s immense Standing Buddha (12m tall) and the Buddhist grottos of Dambulla. Day 5 Polonnaruwa Visit the ancient city. Take a jeep safari in Minneriya National Park. Day 6 Sky Fortress Climb the Lion Rock at Sigiriya and

enjoy the famous ‘heavenly maidens’ rock paintings. Day 7 Kandy Visit the Temple of the Tooth and botanical gardens. Days 8/9 Adam’s Peak Join pilgrims on an ascent of this sacred peak, reaching the top in time for sunrise. Drive to Nuwara Eliya. Day 10 Market town After a free morning drive to the small town of Bandarawela. Days 11/13 Unawatuna Visit the Buduruvagala (Buddha statue). Continue on to the coast at Unawatuna. There is a chance to visit the Dutch city of Galle or take a boat trip in
search of whales (December to April). Day 14 Negombo Take a morning wetlands tour in search of kingfi shers before driving back to Negombo. Day 15 Tour ends Negombo.
