LIMA Highlights of Northern Peru NPE Cultural tour of the lesser known Peruvian highlights


Peru is a country with so much to offer. On this tour we discover the lesser visited sites of the north of the country and learn about its many ancient civilisations including the Chavin, Chimu and Chacapoyans. The highlights will include the imposing Kuelap Fortress dedicated to the Chacapoyan Gods, Chavin - the oldest pilgrimage centre known in Peru and Chan Chan, the largest adobe city in the world.


13 day tour itinerary


Day 1 Join tour Lima. Day 2 Caral Visit the sacred city of Caral, a 5000 year old city of pyramids in the Peruvian desert. Continue to Huaraz. Day 3 Chavin de Huantar Discover the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Chavin. This fascinating archaeological site contains ruins and artefacts from the Chavin, a major pre-Inca culture. Days 4/5 Chan Chan Visit Chan Chan, which was once the capital city of the Chimu Empire and the largest mud-brick city in the world. Days 6/7 Chiclayo Stay in Chiclayo and visit the nearby sites of interest

including Sipan which was considered the most important ceremonial centre of the north. We will also visit the Royal Tombs of Sipan Museum, one of the most spectacular museums in Latin America. Day 8/9 Kuelap Transfer to Chacapoyas. Visit the dramatic fortress of Kuelap. Perched up high on a ridge, this immense oval-shaped pre-Inca city is a prime example of Chacapoyan architecture. Days 10/11 Tarapoto Journey to Tarapoto. Visit the Ahuyashiyacu waterfalls and the forest of diversity.


Days 12/13 Lima Transfer to the airport and fl y to Lima where the tour ends.
