A challenging budget trek around the Mont Blanc massif


An adventurous way to trek the spectacular Tour du Mont Blanc, we carry our own kit on a 7-day version of the classic route. Staying in a combination of simple family-run hotels, traditional auberges and a mountain hut, we enjoy the camaraderie of our fellow trekkers along the way. We also enjoy the magnifi cent mountain scenery, quaint Alpine villages and the buzz of Chamonix and Courmayeur.


10 day tour itinerary


Day 1 Join tour at Geneva airport and drive to Argentiere Day 2 Mont Blanc views Hike up to Col des Posettes (1997m) for superb views of Mont Blanc and Chamonix. Traversing to Col de Balme we can see Switzerland and glacier views on our descent. Day 3 Bovine Route We walk through meadow and forest along the ‘Bovine Route’ to Champex (1486m). Day 4 Val Ferret Gentle trek along the Val Ferret to La Fouly. Day 5 Grand Col

Day 2: 6-7hrs Forclaz


Ferret Crossing the impressive Grand Col Ferret (2537m) we descend along the valley to our hotel at La Palud near Courmayeur. Day 6 Optional activities A rest day with options to visit some hot springs or take the Helbronner cable car to see Mont Blanc. We are reunited with our main luggage today. Day 7 Glacial Valley We take the Bus, to Val Veny and trek along a wide glacial valley to Col de la Seigne (2516m) before descending to Les

Chapieux. Day 8 Marmot Country Climb above Les Chapieux among alpine fl owers, marmots and chamois. Day 9 Outstanding views Enjoy a fi nal day of walking to the Col du Tricot (2120m) and along a plateau before descent by cable car to Les Houches. Day 10 Drive to Geneva airport where tour ends.

Accommodation: 4 nights standard hotels, 2 nights basic auberge, 2 nights basic hotels and 1 night basic refuge. Meals: 9 breakfasts and 5 dinners are included. Tour staff: Explore Tour Leader / trek guide and driver(s). Transport: Bus and public bus. Trekking Details: This is a 7-day trek with an average of between 6-8 hours of walking a day. The trek involves light back-packing; you carry all your own kit for 4 days/3 nights for the fi rst half of the trek and then 3 days/2 nights for the second half. There is one ‘baggage drop’ at Courmayeur mid- way through the trek when you are reunited with your main luggage for the opportunity to refresh your kit with clean clothes. Group size: Generally 10 - 16
