Before You Travel

Passports and Visas British passport holder information

It is your responsibility to ensure that you are in possession of a full passport, with the correct validity for your chosen destination. You must also have all visas and vaccination certifi cates that are necessary to enter or pass through any countries involved in the journey or tour. Visa requirements are listed in individual Tour Notes, but please note that this information is subject to change. If required, visas can be obtained through the Explore Visa Service or the relevant embassy or consulate.

Visas Visa requirements should be confi rmed with the relevant embassy or consulate. Unless otherwise stated (see ‘Y’ below), visas are not required for tourist visits of up to 30 days. General Note: Some countries refuse admission to travellers not meeting their accepted standards of dress or appearance (even if they hold a visa). Entry may also be refused to certain countries if your passport bears stamps or visas (valid or expired) for Israel. Please note, all visa and vaccination information was compiled in October 2013. Please note it is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct, current information in good time before departure and that you act on it.

Inoculation and Health Requirements

When tours visit remote areas or developing countries we normally recommend immunisation against typhoid, tetanus, polio and hepatitis A. Parts of East Africa and South America ask for a Certifi cate of Vaccination against Yellow Fever. Malarial prophylaxis should be taken in many areas.

R* = Protection recommended for travel to some areas – please check with your healthcare provider.

F = Valid International Certifi cate of Vaccination against Yellow Fever required only if coming from countries with risk of yellow fever transmission.

For more information on the subject of vaccinations and health protection, check your individual Tour Notes or consult your booking agent. Further information can be found at www.fi tfortravel.nhs.uk. For country-specifi c advice contact www.nathnac.org/travel – an excellent source of information on health risks. Ask your medical practitioner for the latest information and allow time to obtain the appropriate vaccinations.

Cholera vaccinations are not offi cially required by any country. However, in practice, a cholera vaccination certifi cate may be asked for by border offi cials when arriving from, or travelling into, an infected area: especially at land borders. Please see Tour Notes for details. The UK Department of Health recommends immunisation against tetanus and polio for all countries.

Vaccinations

Please note that some inoculation programmes require two injections, administered four weeks apart. You should leave plenty of time for this. As a general rule, please note that health requirements and recommendations may change and you must check the current requirements in good time before departure.

For holidays in the EU / EEA you should obtain an EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) before departure, from the Department of Health. This is available by telephone (0870 1555455) or online at www.dh.gov.uk. An EHIC is not, however, a substitute for appropriate travel insurance. Please check vaccination requirements with a GP or Vaccination Centre at least two months before travelling.
