Moderate grade walks following China’s Great Wall from east to west
Stretching from the Yellow Sea to the edge of the Gobi Desert, some 2700 miles, the magnifi cent ramparts and watch towers of the Great Wall were built to protect China’s northern frontier from raiding Mongol horsemen. For over 2000 years it has zigzagged over the mountains and rivers of China like a fabulous dragon. Our walk concentrates on some of the most interesting and spectacular sections, and gives us an insight into China ‘off the beaten track’.
10 day tour itinerary
Day 1 Join tour Beijing. Day 2 Beijing Take a tour of the capital, discovering the imperial palaces of the Forbidden City and visiting Tiananmen Square. Day 3 ‘Old Dragon’s Head’ Begin the walk at the ‘Old Dragon’s Head’ - where the wall meets the sea. Follow the trail to Jiaoshan. Days 4/8 The Great Wall Spend several days walking along some of the more interesting and remote sections of the Wall. Stop to take a boat ride on the lake at Panjiakou. Day 4: 4hrs Panjiakou
Qing Tombs. Walk from Jinshanling towards Simatai - considered to be the most beautiful section. Climb crumbling stone steps past dozens of historic beacon towers and several local villages. Day 9 Beijing Return to the city. Optional visit to the Summer Palace or the Temple of Heaven. Day 10 Tour ends Beijing.

Extend your trip and visit one of China’s spectacular highlights, the Terracotta Army in Xian. Home to thousands of lifesize warrior statues who guard the Qin Shi Huangdi tomb.
