The customized chip features 7 independent channels with data rates of up to 5 Gbit/s per channel. Operating at a wavelength of 850nm, the devices will be used for short reach data communication applications.

German firm VI Systems, a manufacturer of ultra-high speed optical components for data communications has introduced the first circular chip arrays of its Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL).

With 7 channels for data rates of up to 5 Gbit/s per channel, the operating wavelength of the VCSEL is specified with 850nm. The chip arrays are available in a ring like 6 + 1 channel configuration with one emitter in center.

The chip arrays are designed for wire-bonding as well as for flip-chip bonding. The VCSEL arrays can be contacted directly from the top and feature a high-speed pad layout.

Target applications are short reach and very short reach optical receivers and transceiver modules used in optical communication networks as well in chip-to-chip optical interconnects in the computer industry. Future serial standards at data rates at 28 Gbit/s are currently developed within Common Electrical Standard (CEI-25/28 Gbit/s), Fiber Channel 32 Gbit/s and Ethernet IEEE 40/100 Gbit/s as well as in a number of custom specific application.

VI System GmbH is a fabless developer and manufacturing company of optoelectronic components for communication, industrial and consumer applications based in Berlin, Germany. The firm is a spin-off from the Technical University of Berlin and the A. F. Ioffe Physico-Technical Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia. VI-Systems offers laser and photo detector semiconductor chips and modules for applications in optical data communications and related consumer markets.

More light for AIXTRON with tool orders

Yangzhou Longyao adds more AIXTRON CRIUS MOCVD tools for HB GaN LEDs

AIXTRON AG have announced a substantial multiple order for additional MOCVD tools from Yangzhou Longyao, a LED manufacturing company in Yangzhou, PR China. Yangzhou Longyao is a subsidiary of Rainbow Optoelectronics Material Shanghai Co. Ltd., China, a long time customer of AIXTRON MOCVD equipment. The order for further CRIUS epitaxial growth reactors was placed at the end of 2009. The systems will be delivered in a 31x2-inch wafer configuration and commissioned at the company’s modern facility in the course of the third and fourth quarters of 2010.

AIXTRON has been chosen as the exclusive supplier for Rainbow’s large-scale plan to meet the challenges of improved LED performance via the ongoing project entitled ‘Deo Light’. This project benefits from the cooperation with the eminent Prof. Shuji Nakamura’s laboratory focusing on the further technical development of blue, green, white LEDs and blue lasers.

Dr. Alan Li, General Manager of Yangzhou Longyao comments, “The order was placed with AIXTRON as they will be continuing to help with our forthcoming capacity increase. In only a couple of years we have seen great acceptance for our range of HB GaN LED epiwafer products, so now we quickly have to ramp up more production in order to meet demand. We will surely have one of the largest and most capable GaN high brightness LED capacity facilities in China when these new tools are up and running.”

Oxford Instruments announces new orders

Systems boost LED Production for Taiwan manufacturer

Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology is delighted to announce a multiple system order from a major Taiwan-based LED epiwafer and chip maker, for use in the production of High Brightness LEDs (HBLEDs). This recent order brings the total number of tools ordered by this company up to 25, comprising a mixture of Oxford Instruments’ family
