To solve its laundry challenges, East Winds turned to Italian- headquartered GILE
cottages, the hotel was sold to a local hotelier, who expanded to 26 cottages and then later bought the neighboring beach house from the Horlicks family, adding four ocean view suites. Today, the all-inclusive boutique resort, which sits mere steps away from one of Saint Lucia’s stunning secluded beaches, provides a place of peace, calm and lush natural beauty for adult visitors. Its 30 one-bed cottages and its oceanfront suites and rooms are surrounded by tropical gardens and colorful bird life, providing the perfect getaway for those who want to bathe among the trees as well as in the crystal clear waters.
An unpretentious, laid-back atmosphere pervades the entire estate, as guests enjoy scenic walking trails, treatments at the open-air Garden Spa, yoga and Pilates sessions at the Pavilion, or simply relax and sip the many herbal drinks brewed from plants in the botanical garden.
“The land is close to the sea, so Margaret decided to build a home there. Then they created a small inn, and it all grew from there”

The hard work behind the scenes Maintaining this air of relaxed luxury requires operational discipline, a clear vision, and equipment that is both reliable and delivers on efficiency and quality. Saint Lucia may be the most densely populated of the four Windward Islands in the Caribbean Sea, but it has limited industrial infrastructure, meaning that sourcing and maintaining high-quality commercial equipment for the kitchen or laundry requires a network of highly professional partners. A prime example of the value of these partnerships
came a few years ago when new owners came on board and brought in Carlos Philip, director, Innovation Saint Lucia, to oversee renovations to the resort’s cold storage facilities and the all-important laundry. “There had been problems with multiple brands in the past,” he says. “There were washers, dryers and flat ironers from different brands with no support on the ground, and it was very difficult to get diagnostics when problems arose.”
