76 CLEAR CALL IN A CRISIS

AVT Audio Video Technologies BY KEVIN EMMOTT

Playing its part to inform the public during emergencies and crises, AVT has implemented Automatic Safety Alert (ASA) functionality into its full range of DAB+ multiplexers. The ASA has recently been introduced to the DAB+ standard. It enables emergency messages to be

targeted to specifi c regions using location codes, with only DAB+ receivers in the specifi ed area set to respond and switch to the alarm message, including DAB+ receivers which are in sleep mode.

AVT’s implementation includes presets for important locations and Ember+ support to allow broadcasters to trigger the ASA and/or select a region

from a mixing console. AVT has also implemented JSON API integration for integration into playout systems. In addition, AVT also offers its Emergency Warning Break-in functionality so that older DAB+ receivers that cannot handle ASA are also able to receive alarm messages. Additionally, AVT is showcasing a new feature allowing broadcasters and authorities to send emergency messages to their DAB+ ensemble via a phone call. 8.F76

MAKING TRUE CONNECTIONS Coax Connectors BY DAVID FOX

Specialist RF connector manufacturer Coax Connectors is showcasing its True 75-ohm 12G right angle PCB BNC connector. This unique design, which features a one-piece centre contact, has just been granted a UK patent. According to Coax, the True 75-ohm has been developed to deliver more consistent performance for applications up to 12GHz than the other 12G right-angle BNC currently on the market.

The connector’s one-piece swept contact minimises refl ections and provides a smooth path for

the 12G signal. It’s available with or without a fl ange and in various fi nishes, including Korus range gold and black for easy identifi cation. Both the rear body and front section are made of gold-plated brass, while the centre contact is made of beryllium copper, also gold-plated. Its dielectric withstand voltage is 1500 Veff, and insulation resistance is 5000 M-ohm. 10.F43
