TEJAS NETWORKS TO EXPLORE ‘PRAGMATIC’ ATSC 3.0 PLATFORM
Tejas Networks, a leading provider of networking technology solutions, is making its debut on the Showcase Theatre this year, with a session exploring the implications and practicalities of ATSC 3.0. Created by the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC), ATSC 3.0 is the next-generation terrestrial broadcast system designed from the ground up to improve the television viewing experience. Built on the same IP backbone as contemporary streaming media platforms, ATSC 3.0 is designed to “bring together over-the-air with over-the-top content”, as well as delivering better video quality and immersive audio to viewers.
“As Europe rethinks terrestrial and mobile delivery, ATSC 3.0 – an all-IP broadcast platform – offers a pragmatic path to implementing multiple business models at continental scale”
Parag Balwant Naik, Executive Vice
President – Head of Semiconductor, Broadcast and Satcom at Tejas Networks, comments: “As Europe rethinks terrestrial and mobile delivery, ATSC 3.0 – an all-IP broadcast platform – offers a pragmatic path to implementing multiple business models at continental scale. Our session on the Showcase Theatre shows how ATSC 3.0 can coexist with DVB-T2 and 5G Broadcast, extend coverage via effi cient high-tower SFNs, and give public service and commercial media control over reach, resilience and costs.”
UNIQUE INSIGHTS
Elaborating upon the contents of the session, which will take place today from 14:00-14:45, Naik says that the participants will “provide unique insight into the advancement and extensions of ATSC, The Broadcast Standards Association, and new work that will bring it into alignment with true 3GPP interworking. With an open invitation for participation, details of the new business opportunities that will be unleashed will be brought into focus. “In the coming months, the work on B2X
(Broadcast to Everything), a true multicast/ broadcast extension, will become focused on proof-of-concept deployments. It is hoped that European broadcasters, understanding
the economic and cultural value of this activity, will become more fully engaged.” In terms of the insights that he hopes delegates will gain from the session, he notes that it will provide information about “strategic pathways for European adoption, including SFN trials, dual-standard chipset promotion, and cross-sector collaboration. It will also emphasise how ATSC 3.0 complements, rather than competes, with 5G Broadcast, offering a hybrid ecosystem that enhances resilience, reach and control.” Moreover, when asked about his general expectations for the IBC Show, it’s clear that
Parag Balwant Naik, Tejas Networks
Naik places a great value on the chance to share insights with vendors and broadcasters. “IBC always provides the opportunity to
share perspectives more broadly among broadcasters and their vendor community. The role of broadcasting is increasingly relevant in today’s world, and the economic and cultural underpinnings must be advanced,” he says.
Tejas Networks is hosting a session on the Showcase Theatre in Hall 8 between 14:00 and 14:45 today. It is free to attend.
