Gordon Brooks, CEO, Zixi

What are the biggest challenges facing the media and entertainment industry? The industry is undergoing a massive transformation, leading to signifi cant fi nancial pressures on nearly every media organisation. There’s an intense race towards profi tability, driven by investor demands. This has created a need to achieve more with fewer resources. Companies are facing layoffs while simultaneously expanding services, increasing live sports coverage and launching new FAST channels. The key challenge now is identifying which aspects of the workfl ow can be automated to enable this ‘more with less’ approach. While the initial shift to IP was focused on creating new content and acquiring subscribers, the emphasis has now shifted to profi tability.

How is your company helping its customers to address the challenges faced by the media and entertainment industry? Zixi’s SDVP is designed to support the ongoing transformation of media and video to IP, enabling seamless operation in a cloud-based,

virtualised environment. It is highly automated, featuring ESNI/ESAM integration, hitless failover, and Zen Master control and orchestration with Live Events Manager. The goal is to simplify operations and help organisations do more with fewer resources. ZaaS, leveraging low- cost cloud infrastructure, further facilitates easier and quicker implementation. Additionally, IDP and RCA with multi-object- correlation-analysis reduce incident resolution time, while predictive analysis and warnings help prevent failures altogether.

What do you think are the main drivers in your market sector? The industry is being driven by the convergence of consumer demand and investor expectations. Consumers dictate how and what content they want to consume, while investors focus on the returns on their investments. This convergence is pushing the industry to fi nd new ways to monetise content. Broadcasters are now compelled to explore creative strategies for content monetisation, as traditional delivery methods like satellite are no longer agile enough to meet the evolving

Adopting open-source AI for both security and cost savings, nxtedition is demoing its integration of Meta’s Llama 3 large language model directly on its platform. The integration allows semantic content search using natural language queries. It also integrates with OpenAI’s Whisper for voice-to-text transcription, automating content title and description generation for

demands of today’s media landscape.

What are the main areas of focus for your company during IBC2024?

Zixi has made signifi cant efforts to reduce the total cost of ownership, a priority that is increasingly important to our customers. There’s a common misconception in the market, where Zixi is often compared to open-source protocols. However, Zixi is a comprehensive software platform that supports over 18 different protocols. We’ve been highly focused on lowering the total cost of ownership, and our calculations show that

so-called ‘free’ protocols can actually be quite costly when you consider the total cost of operating a system with them. This year, we’re encouraging our customers to ‘do the math’, as the numbers clearly demonstrate the value of Zixi, especially at scale. Zixi’s use of lossless null packet compression signifi cantly reduces egress bandwidth, while our implementation of DPDK technology exponentially increases system throughput. This not only reduces total compute requirements but also lowers the carbon footprint.

What sets your company apart as a technology leader? We are experts in this fi eld, and our comprehensive platform distinguishes itself through the extensive breadth of our technology. We offer a wide range of capabilities that are continuously innovated to meet the evolving needs of our customers. By consistently introducing market-leading features, we’ve empowered our customers to achieve more within the Zixi platform, providing a one-stop solution for IP video delivery. 5.A85
