Software consultancy Collabora is focusing on the Device Automation Bus (DAB) open-source network protocol that aims to make it easier to test living room technology. As the company explains, DAB was created by Netfl ix, YouTube and Amazon Prime Video to tackle the complex task of testing applications for all types of devices. Deploying applications for
internet-connected living room devices including televisions, set-top boxes and gaming consoles requires a thorough certifi cation
testing phase. DAB is designed to enable device manufacturers and application developers to remotely control a device under test. Additionally, DAB can collect application telemetry data during tests to provide information to external tools and reduce test complexity and costs. The goal is to enable device manufacturers and application vendors to save time and money, ultimately enhancing the experience for end users. Collabora says DAB is backed by application developers and is readily available to the RDK community through an open-source backend designed by the consultancy. 5.C40
