PORTABLE RECORDING FOR REPORTING ON THE MOVE Shure

BY KEVIN EMMOTT

Audio specialist Shure is debuting two portable wireless systems designed for different user needs. The SLX-D portable digital wireless system is designed for professional audio users on location, while for content creators, videographers and mobile journalists, the MoveMic claims to be the world’s smallest dual-channel

direct-to-phone microphone. Built for the fi lm, ENG and video industries, SLX-D portables include the SLXD5 portable digital wireless receiver and the SLXD3 plug- on digital wireless transmitter. The SLXD5 has a fl exible, miniaturised design that can be installed on-camera or in an audio bag, enabling use in any location. The SLXD3 wireless transmitter transforms any XLR source into a wireless one, including dynamic condenser microphones.

MoveMic is designed to deliver mobile audio capture for content creators, videographers and mobile journalists. With a microphone no larger than a USB drive, it includes a custom acoustic design and patent-pending wireless software that Shure says produces broadcast-quality audio with industry-leading portability, offering up to 24 hours of direct-to-phone recording. 8.C32

PREPARE FOR PEAKS WITH PEER-TO-PEER SOFTWARE Quanteec

BY KIRSTY HAZLEWOOD IBC Daily_ASTRO.pdf 1 2024/08/09 17:11

Designed to greatly reduce CDN use for live events, Quanteec’s peer-to-peer (P2P) streaming software is claimed to offer an average energy saving of 40-50% and a minimum cost saving of 25%. The software uses the existing capacity in viewer devices to resend a stream to other viewers with no noticeable impact on user experiences. The result is that

peaks in viewership that might be associated with major live events don’t have to rely on CDN capacity. Daniel Négru, Co-founder and CEO, Quanteec, said: “We want to show broadcasters – especially the sustainability champions – that delivering big events to large numbers of viewers can be done in a better, cheaper and greener way.” “From our launch in 2021, we have put sustainability in our DNA. We were always asking ourselves how much power our technology consumes, compared with the other

solutions. How do we improve the handling of traffi c peaks, while also lowering the energy consumption? It turned out the solution we came up with was also cheaper.” Major broadcasters implemented Quanteec for this summer’s major sporting events. The company says it allowed them to prepare for large audience peaks and save energy by using already existing devices with unused delivery capacity, while also making substantial cost savings on CDNs. 1.A05a
