Neil Mitchell Targeted Action Area Team Manager

Neil’s usual role sees him coordinating both the Council and its partners to tackle particular issues in local communities. However, during the COVID-19 crisis Neil has also been leading a shopping service.

The team has been shopping for residents who are unable to do so themselves. The requests come in thick and fast - Monday to Friday, but Neil says his hard-working team of shoppers from many different parts of the Council makes the work enjoyable.

“From creating the service to getting the work done, the team has has so much compassion. Being with a group of passionate staff who are prepared to go above and beyond is brilliant. It’s down to their willingness that we have been able to provide so much. And the service has been so well-received, we’ve even had tears from grateful individuals.”

Jamie Stephenson Assistant Catering and Cleaning Manager

Jamie has been juggling looking after catering and cleaning in both schools and care homes with helping at the Council’s food parcel service. Food parcels are produced at the Logistics Hub for those shielding and other residents impacted by COVID-19. Fresh produce is delivered daily and packed into bags to deliver to residents. The hub also provides around 1,600 free school meals a day, delivered directly to schools and to Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise groups who distribute locally.

“The team has a real variety of staff members, from kitchen assistants to staff in Community Protection. It’s been brilliant to have such a diverse range of people willing to pitch in and help. It’s a busy job – we keep 150 parcels on standby at all times – but knowing you’ve made a difference makes it worthwhile.”

Jade Mulhearn Employee Engagement Officer

Jade normally writes and distributes staff communications, but like Jon, she has been collecting and delivering prescriptions as well as keeping an eye on the email inbox that was created to receive messages from residents who need some support.

“I was eager to do my bit to help, so when the opportunity arose I volunteered to take on additional duties. I have delivered over 150 prescriptions across Stockton and responded to hundreds of emails from residents. Everyone has been so appreciative and grateful of the help they have received which is why I’m so happy to give my time.”
