Day in the LIFE

Nathan Duff Health Improvement Specialist

Nathan usually works with external partners to find the best solutions for the Borough’s health needs. Since March, he has been answering and making phone calls, putting support in place for residents with serious health conditions to help with prescriptions, food parcels, shopping and more.

“The new service changed every day to suit the needs of our residents, and soon began helping with mental health, finances

Toni Sedgwick Family Support Worker

Toni’s role normally relies on direct contact with families providing classes, parenting programmes and more. With face-to-face gatherings no longer an option, the Family Hubs team have created virtual workshops to ensure families get the support they need.

“We wanted to make sure we could continue to support families at home, so we started creating videos to help parents with bedtime routines or give safety tips.”

To find out more, follow the Stockton Family Hub on Facebook using @Stockton-Family-Hub or contact the team directly by calling 01642 528848.

Jon Wilmot Assistant Markets Manager

Alongside his usual job, Jon has helped the prescription delivery service.

“We work on a rota to take and fulfil requests, but the jobs can vary between planned and urgent prescriptions. We try to keep them as local as possible based on where a staff member is available, but I’ve had residents of Billingham with pharmacies located in Ingleby Barwick, so sometimes there have been a few longer trips! Both the residents and the pharmacies have been extremely appreciative and are always very happy to see us, which makes the work very rewarding.”

As a team we’ve contacted over 10,000 people and every phone call is different – people have really coped and responded to the pandemic in amazing and inspiring ways.”

We normally bring you a feature that looks at a ‘Day in the Life’ of a council worker but since the Coronavirus crisis began, there hasn’t been a typical one - a ‘Day in the Life’ of a council worker is whatever is needed.

Many staff have been going above and beyond, often taking on new roles to help ensure we continue to be ambitious, effective and proud to serve. Here we take a look at a small selection of staff who have done just that.
