There are lots of good reasons to give up smoking but right now it’s more important than ever:

22

Stopping smoking gives your lungs time to repair, reducing the risk of complications from COVID-19 and increasing the likelihood of a quick recovery.

Exposure to secondhand smoke increases the risk of complications from respiratory infections - so during this time while you’re spending more time at home, smoking puts the people you live with at risk.

Stopping smoking brings immediate health benefits particularly to your heart and lungs, so you will be less likely to need the NHS for reasons other than COVID-19.

We know that this may be a difficult time to quit, but you can get help from specialist Stop Smoking advisors who are offering support by telephone while the usual clinics are temporarily closed. Prescriptions for appropriate medications can be issued and sent to a local pharmacy for collection.

Call the Stop Smoking Service helpline on 01642 383819 or visit www.nth.nhs.uk/services/stop-smoking-service/
