Calling all bookworms

Fancy a fantastic adventure this summer? Look no further than Stockton-on-Tees Borough Libraries as the popular Summer Reading Challenge returns, but not as you know it!

This year’s Summer Reading Challenge is going digital. Children will join the Silly Squad online as they get stuck in to all different kinds of funny books. The new online platform will help children keep track of their books, reviews and the rewards they unlock along the way.

The Summer Reading Challenge is free, open to all school children aged from 4 to 11 and is designed for all reading abilities. For more information about the Summer Reading Challenge and other free activities please contact your local library. For more information visit www.stockton.gov.uk/ libraries

Norton Hockey Club Crowned Top Club in England

Norton Hockey Club has been crowned the 2020 England Hockey Club of the Year. GB international, Sam Ward, made the announcement at a virtual awards ceremony last month. He gave a special mention to the club’s efforts and achievements in providing hockey across all age ranges and for fundraising to improve the facilities at Norton.

Club Chairman, Jon Carter said: ‘’We are absolutely thrilled and honoured to receive this most prestigious award. It is testimony to the huge amount of work done over an extended period by so many people associated with our fantastic club.’’

Doing our bit for the environment

The use of single use materials in Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council buildings will soon be a thing of the past.

By March 2025 items like plastic, paper and tins will be phased out.

Not only will this increase the amount of recycled materials the Council uses, it will also reduce general waste and disposal costs.

Council suppliers, contractors and stakeholders are being urged to support our policy, whilst encouraging other organisations to take similar steps.
