Celebrating our Personal Assistants
People who need help with their care can employ a personal assistant to support them to live as independently as possible.
During the Coronavirus pandemic Personal Assistants (PAs) have been a vital support for some of our most vulnerable residents. These essential key workers continued providing reliable care and consistent support. For some they were the only person they had to support them and an essential lifeline to the outside world.
Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council promotes the role of Personal Care Assistants and works closely with Individual Employers (people who may need a PA).

Jak Savage was recently nominated for a Skills for Care Accolade Award in the ’Best individual who employs their own care and support staff’ category.
Jak was shortlisted as a finalist and highly commended: “I may feel broken and need support and care at home but I
make sure that I invest in training development and do everything I can as an employer to provide a welcoming workspace.
“I hope I can inspire other people who employ their own care staff to aim high, manage the way I do and further themselves by becoming good employers.
“Being an Individual Employer who employs their own care staff means I get better control over my care and how my needs are met. Receiving good support from the Council and recognition from Skills for Care has given me the confidence to go and share my experience with other people.”
