Say NO to Doorstep Callers •

Residents across Stockton- on-Tees are being reminded to be wary of doorstep callers this summer.

If you need work doing, you should always seek recommendations from friends and family, and where possible obtain more than one quote before deciding on who to employ.

There are many reasons why you shouldn’t engage with doorstep callers:

• •

• •

They may persuade and pressure you into accepting work that you might not need.

They may charge you more money than necessary.

They may do a poor or unfinished job.

They might try to charge you for more than the initial quote.

They might be a fake company with fake names, addresses etc.

If a doorstep caller offers to sell you goods, please be aware that:

They may pressure you into making a quick decision.

• •

The products may be fake, faulty or unsuitable for you.

They may be selling the products at a much higher price than the true value.

For help and advice on scams and doorstep callers contact one of our Trading Standards Advisors on 01642 526560.

Only Sausages Should Sizzle This Summer

Cleveland Fire Brigade is helping residents stay safe at home this summer with a series of fire safety tips:

• •

• •

Don’t drink and fry – fires start when you are distracted.

Store rubbish securely away from your property – to protect your home from potential fire.

Switch off all electricals, such as fans, when not in use to prevent overheating.

Hot materials, like BBQ ashes, should never be dumped in the bin.

These tips are among those outlined in a high profile campaign.

Steve Johnson, Senior Head, Prevention and Engagement, said: “We want everyone to enjoy the warmer weather but just be careful to rule out any potential fire hazards. Careless cooking can be a recipe for disaster as most fires start in the kitchen.”
