Our Covid Diary
A Look
Back at VE Day 75th
Anniversary On Friday 8 May we celebrated the 75th anniversary of VE day in a very different way. Due to Coronavirus restrictions, celebrations had to be conducted at home, but that didn’t stop the residents of the Borough celebrating in true British spirit!
For many, the day started with the two minute silence at 11am, followed by a day of activities such as socially distanced street parties and sing-a-longs with the nation giving a rendition of the late Dame Vera Lynn’s ‘We’ll Meet Again’ at 9pm.
Hartburn resident, Ian Mackie, encouraged his street and many others to join in the festivities by decorating their houses in red, white and blue and having a socially distanced street party. He said: “It was an amazingly happy, joyful, and integrating community day. It was also a celebration of the battle against this terrible virus and a practice for Victory in Japan Day in August.”
And here you can take a look at the other fantastic VE day inspired activities from across the Borough:
The White House Care Home also had a day of celebrations, you can see what they got up to in this video:
