PPE Angels
When the COVID crisis led to a nationwide PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) shortage leaving many of our NHS and front line workers without it – a Stockton-on-Tees school did its bit to help.
Ingleby Manor Free School made 500 visors for the NHS and care homes such as Ingleby Care Home in Ingleby Barwick.
The 0-19 children’s service, which the Council commissions Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust to run, sent out a plea for PPE donations using Facebook and they were blown away by the public’s response.
More than 50 sets of scrubs and 80 visors along with an abundance of aprons, gloves and masks were donated to help keep the Growing Well, Growing Healthy Team and Infant Feeding Team safe so they could continue to offer much needed care and support to local families.
The Team would like to say thank you to everyone who donated!
A shining example
Schools across the Borough went above and beyond the call of duty throughout the peak of the
Coronavirus pandemic. They remained open to vulnerable children and children of key workers at all times including the Easter holidays, bank holidays and during May half-term while adapting to new ways of working and new technology quickly so they could offer home learning for those that weren’t able to attend schools as normal.
At Preston Primary School children, parents, carers and staff have been working together to make sure that the last few months are remembered for positivity, kindness and love.

The children have made ‘Lockdown scrapbooks’ to help them keep a record of this extraordinary time.
The school has been open throughout the pandemic for key worker children and has recently started to welcome back Year 1 and Reception children in small ‘bubble’ groups.
Meanwhile, staff have been very busy providing daily online learning activities, fun family challenges, phone calls and lots of laughter through their staff videos!
Pentland Primary School in Billingham has also been open throughout the pandemic, offering a calm, safe haven to the children of key workers and vulnerable children.
Dawn Dacombe, Head of School said “We all feel so lucky to belong to such a supportive community which make up our Pentland Primary School family.”
The children created bracelets for NHS staff and raised an amazing £100. They’ve baked cakes for key workers, developed their outside garden, celebrated VE day with a socially distanced picnic and even created 'hugs' to post to family members.
