Markets return

The popular markets in Billingham, Stockton and Thornaby re-opened last month.

Social distancing arrangements are in place so all the stall holders are able to trade.

And it’s not just social distancing that has changed the look of Stockton market, five long standing traders have retired.

Sharon and Mike Riley who have been selling coats and jackets for 40 years, Shabba Hussain who has been selling ladieswear for 40 years, Ian Elcoat who was a partner in the food stall selling cakes and biscuits for 30 years, and Paul Turnbull who was the coin dealer on the market for 21 years have all said goodbye.

Markets Manager, Richard Beddard, said: “We wish you all the best for the future, thank you for your continued support of our traditional markets.”

Successful art commission for Jacobs Engineering

Stockton Riverside College teamed up with Jacobs, a global civil engineering firm to produce artwork that will brighten up the firm’s Stockton offices.

Jacobs visited Level 2 and 3 Art and Design students to introduce their company and give them their brief.

The aim was to incorporate the firm’s culture and values into the commission, with

a focus on mental health and inclusion. Jacobs also donated canvases and materials for the students to work with.

The partnership not only allowed Jacobs to involve the local community, but it gave the students of Stockton Riverside College the experience of working with a client, giving them a taste of what’s to come when they enter into the industry.
