Uzbekistan, a Central Asian country with a rich Silk Road heritage, has recently taken its first formal steps toward legalising gambling. A presidential decree effective January 1, 2025, introduced a new licensing regime for online gambling, sports betting and lotteries, with the National Agency of Perspective Projects (NAPP) appointed as the regulator.

In Uzbekistan, debit and prepaid cards dominate the payment landscape with 42 per cent of the market share, followed by bank transfers at 23 per cent. E-wallets and mobile apps each account for 14 per cent, while cash-in, credit cards, buy- now-pay-later, and other methods remain less common. Among payment systems, the most widely used are Uzcard, Humo, Pay Way, Oson, and Click.

In 2024, TikTok and Facebook were the leading social media platforms in Uzbekistan, followed by VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, and Instagram.
