Flutter to shut 57 Paddy Power shops Operator News

Flutter Entertainment has confirmed that it will close 57 Paddy Power retail betting shops across the UK and Ireland with 247 workers at risk of redundancy. Te decision was made due to increasing cost

pressures and challenging market conditions. One Paddy Power betting shop will be closed in Northern Ireland, with 28 to close in the Republic of Ireland. Flutter UKI said staff would be ‘offered redeployment opportunities where possible.’ Flutter said: “Te closures will, unfortunately lead

to a number of job losses. We are consulting closely with colleagues and providing support to those affected by these changes.”

MGM pulls plug on New York bid Operator News

MGM Yonkers has sensationally withdrawn its commercial casino licence application to the New York Gaming Commission and the Gaming Facility Location Board, citing what would be an oversaturation of the local market and the 15-year licence instead of a 30-year duration. MGM’s withdrawal means just three

operator bids remain, meaning all will get licences if the four-member panel issues all three of the licenses on December 1. Te three remaining bids are Bally’s Bronx, Hard Rock’s plans next to Citi Field in Queens, and the existing Resorts World New York City. Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano is demanding a

full investigation. He said: “Something doesn’t add up here. Te people of Yonkers deserve answers. Tis decision by MGM defies all logic, and it’s nothing short of a betrayal to the people of Yonkers and Westchester County. I am calling on Governor Hochul to launch an independent investigation into this process,

Ontario’s machine crackdown Operator News

Te Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is taking strong action to protect the public from unregulated gambling machines, announcing significant enforcement results from a province-wide sweep of bars, restaurants and lottery retailers this summer. In July and August, AGCO inspectors

conducted more than 200 inspections at liquor- licensed and lottery retail establishments. Tese targeted enforcement actions led to the rapid removal of more than 50 “Prime Slots” machines, which had been operating unlawfully

because the reasons MGM gives for its 180- degree reversal just don’t add up.” “Te people of Yonkers deserve to know if

this process was tainted or manipulated in any way,” he added. “MGM has publicly acknowledged that Empire City cannot survive without a full gaming license, so why are they signing their own death warrant?” Te venue operates 4,700 slots, electronic

three card poker, blackjack, craps, roulette, baccarat and sic bo table games. Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins

added: “I share Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano’s concern that there appears to be more to this story, potentially political influence or pressure from the Trump Administration, or even the President himself, that forced MGM’s hand to default to Bally’s, a move that could result in a profit of roughly $115m for Trump.” MGM stated: “We know our decision will impact many individuals; we remain committed to operating the property in its current format and believe it will continue to enjoy success serving customers in Yonkers and the surrounding communities.”

and without regulatory oversight in restaurants, convenience stores, and other locations accessible to minors and other vulnerable groups. Prime Slots machines have been marketed as

games that only require skill, but AGCO testing determined that these machines ordinarily rely on chance. Because of this, they are not permitted under Canadian law unless they are from a licensed supplier, approved and used in a regulated space like a casino or charitable gaming centre. Te AGCO’s enforcement actions come at a

time when the growth of unregulated gaming machines has escalated across North America.

Mexico approves 50 per cent tax Legislation

With 351 votes in favour, 129 against, and one abstention, Mexico’s Chamber of Deputies approved in general the bill that reforms, adds, and repeals various provisions of the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS) Law. Te law imposes a 50 per cent tax on gambling and

lottery activities conducted online or through electronic means, whether directly by the service provider or via national and foreign digital platforms. Representatives from the casino sector in Mexico have voiced their concerns about the proposed taxes by the government of President Claudia Sheinbaum in the Economic Package for 2026. Alfonso Pérez Lizaur, president of the Association

of Gaming and Lottery Permit Holders and Providers, said that raising the IEPS for gaming and lotteries from 30 to 50 per cent increases the risk of a sector, a large portion of which comes from digital channels operated under license, moving into the informal sector.

two blackjack and two poker tables, supplemented by a slot machine hall with around 130 slot machines of the latest generation. Visitors can expect a significantly larger and more

modern offer in the future than at the previous location at the Kabutzenhof.
