stage with over 2,700 authorised businesses and approximately 15,000 compliant machines.
Regarding revenue distribution from this sector, 22.5 per cent is allocated to public programmes.
Puerto Rico is set to see a significant expansion of slot machines in the coming months. In March, the Puerto Rico Gaming Commission announced the initiation of the application and renewal process for licenses for route gambling machines, marking a return to legislative regulations after a two-year hiatus. New regulations approved by the Fiscal Supervisory Board (JSF) in December 2024 aim to streamline this implementation while also supporting the Police Retirement System. Te Gaming Machines Law permits a maximum of 25,000 route machines across the island, with each business able to operate up to 15 machines as a supplemental activity. initial phase, the response from operators has been robust, enabling us to authorise a significant number of businesses and operators,” said the Executive Director of the Commission, Juan Carlos Santaella Marchán. After the orientation process for business owners, which
took place from March to July, the staff of the Commission’s Office of Inspection and Regulation visited hundreds of establishments that were not in compliance with the law, issuing fines totalling more than $530,000.
