A constitutional amendment was passed in 1992 to allow ‘gambling excursion boats’ on the Missouri and Mississippi rivers which opened the doors to gambling and a limit was placed on 13 in total. Te sector is regulated by the Missouri Gaming Commission and in 2023 the casino GGR reached $1.92bn made up of $1.65bn from slots and $271.5m from table games. Total wagers in 2023 amounted to $11.1bn. Te casinos operate around 13,500 slots and more than 400 table games in total and are operated by: Affinity Interactive – St Jo Frontier Casino and Mark Twain Casino. Sports betting is still not permitted in Missouri. A bill in 2023 to authorise landbased and online sports wagering never made it to Senate. A ballot was due to be held in November 2024 to enable residents to vote on the issue.
