IGT Expanding in Spain’s Salones Sector

Spain has emerged as an important EMEA market for IGT, especially in the salones sector, which consists of amusement-with-prize (AWP) gaming establishments. IGT has strategically expanded its presence by introducing Diamond Mania, its latest multi-level progressive (MLP) game, in 2024. IGT has achieved the 2,000 unit milestones in the market due to performance success and meeting local market demands.

Distributed in partnership with Orenes Grupo, Spain’s leading gaming machine distributor, Diamond Mania has swiftly become the top- performing game in the salones sector. Te game leverages a winning formula by integrating the ‘Winning Pots’ concept, popular in casinos, into the retail gaming sector. With four diverse base game themes— Samurai Takeo, Majestic Stallion, Ramosis Treasures, and Wish Mistress—and three unique bonuses, Diamond Mania has successfully captured player interest.

Te game is housed in the new BINTIA 27 gaming machine and is set to be accompanied by Treasure Box Link, the next AWP title on IGT’s roadmap for Spain. IGT’s next AWP game, Treasure Box, should further solidify IGT’s footprint in the region and expand its MLP portfolio tailored for the Spanish market.

Te gaming landscape in Spain has undergone significant changes in the past five years. Historically, slot machines in salones mirrored their bar- based counterparts. However, a stark shift from mechanical stepper machines to high-end video gaming products has distinguished the two sectors.

Today, Spain hosts approximately 140,000 slot machines in bars and 60,000 in salones, with an additional 25,000 terminals of electronic roulette (ETGs) further transforming the industry. Te introduction of ETGs has played a crucial role in narrowing the gap between casinos and salones, making the sector more sophisticated and competitive. IGT’s strategic introduction of advanced video slot products align perfectly with this evolution.

IGT is also making significant strides in the European video poker 32

market, particularly through the introduction of the PeakBarTop. Tis innovative concept has already been installed in Casino Gran Madrid Torrelodones, serving as a model showroom for potential expansion across Europe.

According to Cristobal Bermudez, Product Sales Specialist EMEA at IGT, the PeakBarTop is a unique offering that sets IGT apart from its competitors. “We are working with casinos as part of a PeakBarTop project, with the first installation at Casino Gran Madrid Torrelodones. Tis has become a showroom for the rest of Europe as we seek to introduce this concept to casinos across EMEA. It is something different. No one has anything similar. I think it will be a big success,” stated Cristobal at ICE Barcelona.

Te PeakBarTop is particularly appealing in markets where space constraints make it difficult to replace older poker machines. France and South Africa represent key target markets, as legacy video poker machines in these regions have become outdated. By integrating IGT’s PeakBarTop within bar areas, operators can modernise their video poker offerings without sacrificing valuable floor space.

Cristobal also explained that IGT is currently targeting the UK video poker market, with its concept approved for the first time in the UK B1 sector. "Te UK is a special market with limitations on maximum bets and progressives. However, we know UK players like to play video poker - and though there is a limitation of 20 machines, the proposed changes to EGM limits presents an opportunity for IGT.

“We have the go-ahead for the project and will be introducing both upright and bar-top products for the UK."
