Plainridge is operated by Penn National Gaming and opened in June 2015 and has a slots parlour with 900 slots, 60 electronic table games and 58 video poker machines. MGM Springfield opened in August 2018 and includes a 240 room hotel and gaming area with 2,500 slots and 93 table games, 23 poker tables and VIP area. Encore Boston Harbor opened in June 2019 and is operated by Wynn MA. Te $2.6bn project includes a five start hotel resort with 600 rooms whilst the casino has 2,700 slots, 185 table games and WynnBet Sportsbook. Licensing fee for the ‘category 1’ casinos was
$85m whilst the project required a $500m capital investment to include hotel facility was $500m minimum. Te casinos pay 25 per cent tax on GGR. ‘Category 2’ licensing fee was $25m with $125m minimum capital investment and pay 49 per cent tax on GGR. Sports betting is taxed on 15 per cent of gross
sports wagering revenue whilst online sports betting is taxed at 20 per cent. In 2023 the gaming sectors generated $427.4m in gaming taxes. Sports betting was permitted at the state’s casi- nos and racino in 2022 through affiliated and standalone sportsbook platforms. Land-based sports betting was launched at the casino in January 2023 whilst online sports betting went live in March with a total of eight platforms op- erational by end of 2023. Gaming revenue in 2023 amounted to $1.67bn
of which sports betting accounted for $483.2m (11 months retail and 10 months online). Online sports betting was responsible for 98 per cent of that revenue. Casino slots gaming revenue was $1.18bn divided
between slots with $789.9m and table games $394.6m. Encore was responsible for 63.7 per cent of total land-based casino revenue and was the third most lucrative commercial casino outside of Nevada after Resorts World New York City and MGM National Harbor in Maryland.

Te three commercial casinos in Michigan each operate slots, table games and sports betting and are regulated by the Michigan Gaming Control Board.
Commercial gaming was first authorised in
1996 with a maximum of three casinos permitted in Detroit which are: Motor City Casino Hotel which offers hotel,
spa, dining and entertainment and casino with 2,400 plus slots. Online sports betting and casino is provided by FanDuel Casino. Hollywood Casino at Greektown is operated
by Penn Entertainment and has 2,200 slots and table games. Sports betting is offered via 40 betting kiosks via ESPNBET. MGM Grand offers hotel, dining, entertainment
and casino with over 2,300 slots and 160 table games plus a BetMGM sports lounge. Meanwhile there are 23 tribal Class III casinos

mercial casinos and 12 Indian tribes to offer state- wide online sports betting and igaming through a single sportsbook, casino and poker platform affiliated with each casino or tribe. Online gaming began in January 2021 and by end of 2023 there were 14 online sportsbooks, 15 internet casinos and three online poker platforms operations. Total state gaming revenue reached $3.58bn in
2023, up almost 10 per cent from the previous year due to a growth in the igaming market. Total igaming revenue from the online casino
