markets for private sector operators. Looking at the experience in Ontario, the provincial lottery corporation has proven to be a successful competitor to some of the larger operators and is turning a substantial profit to the province.


Turning to an important CGA initiative that we began working on last year, we are also committed to moving the industry forward in terms of offering safe and sustainable products and continuing to raise the bar for player protection. Te CGA, through our recently initiated Action to Promote Responsible Play initiative, is bringing together a new group of stakeholders who are now part of the regulated industry – broadcasters and sports leagues – as they recognise the shared responsibility to promote our products in a responsible manner. Tis strategy will lead to ongoing dialogue among industry stakeholders, regulators, and conduct and manage entities to ensure that together, we make sound evidence-based policy decisions.


You can expect to hear more about Responsible Play over the coming months, as we will be working on the completion of industry RG Guiding Principles, developing and implementing a National Advertising Code, and exploring enhanced public education efforts.


Lastly, I’d like to share the rest of our 2024 priorities:

Actively participate in the Parliamentary Review of the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTF Act) to ensure Canada’s AML laws and regulations better reflect the evolution of Canada’s gaming industry.


l


Engage the Canadian Senate on Bills S-268 and S-269 to work with the Senate to ensure that Canada’s gaming industry is actively consulted and doesn’t face unnecessary regulation.


l


Actively work with the Government of Alberta and AGLC as they explore enhancements of Alberta’s gaming model.


l


Continue to be a voice for the industry for the reduction of needless red tape and duplication, controlling costs related to compliance.


l


Promoting the benefits of the gaming industry on the Canadian economy.


Tis year promises to be a busy one, as in addition to our advocacy work, we look to create opportunities for dialogue and engagement and to invest in building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders. And the SBC Canadian Gaming Summit returns to Toronto in June 2024 – we hope to see you there!
