Te province of British Colombia has a population of more than 5.5 million and is the country’s third most populous province. Te capital is Victoria and the largest city is Vancouver with around 2.6 million people.
British Columbia has regulated gambling which is all managed by the Lottery Corporation (BCLC) on behalf of the provincial government which offers slots, table games, and bingo at 34 casinos and community gaming centres, two racecourse casinos, and one commercial bingo hall. CASINOS - Tere are 20 casinos, 14 slots and one bingo hall in British Columbia and all managed by BCLC. Casino revenues returned to pre-pandemic levels with restrictions all lifted.

Te new casino Cascades Casino in Delta opened last year replacing the Lake City Casino Penticton which closed down in 2017 to make way for the new casino opening in the region. Te Cascades is 45,000sq.ft offering 500 slots, 18 tables and four electronic tables and is operated by Gateway Casinos.
Total revenues for the casino and slot halls amounted to $1.9bn with a net income of $998m – this is compared to $1.3bn revenues in 2021/22 and $667m net income.
ONLINE - BCLC’s
playnow.com has a growing portfolio of lottery games, sports betting, slots, table games, and bingo games. It was the first province in Canada to offer casino style games online in 2019 and in 2021 the province began offering single event sports betting via the site.
In 2022 the company signed a five- year exclusive licence with Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority to operate online gambling in the province of Saskatchewan. BCLC also provides online games and web-based and mobile platforms to Manitoba province through a contract with Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries.
When Ontario launched its licensing of private sector online gambling there was an increase in advertising for sites licensed in Ontario with
playnow.com struggling to maintain its market share as the only legal website in BC. Online gaming saw $440m in revenues last year with $294m in net income.
HORSE RACING - Live horse Racing is offered via two racetracks, thoroughbred racing at Hasting Racecourse in Vancouver and harness racing at Fraser Downs in Surrey, and onscreen tele-theatres throughout the province. Wagering at the racetracks, online and tele- theatres totals around $140m annually.
Te Hasting casino offers 500 slots whilst Elements Casino at Fraser Downs has 500 slots and table games.

LOTTERY - Te BCLC national and provincial lottery and sports betting products are sold at around 3,400 retail locations. Products include Lotto Max, Lotto 6/49, BC49 and Daily Grand plus scratchcards, poker lotto and keno.
In 2022, the BCLC launched the Lotto 6/49 game enhancement to refresh the brand appeal and improve player participation. Lottery revenues amounted to $572m in 2022/23 with a net income of $344m.
