P12 NEWSWIRE / INTERACTIVE / MARKET DATA

Branscheforenigen för Onlinespel, the online trade association representing 23 gambling companies in the Swedish industry, has written to Sweden's Ministry of Finance to complain about the temporary restrictions on the online market that were introduced on July 2 this year that are being extended to June 30 2021. Te proposed restrictions are a weekly deposit limit of a maximum of SEK 5,000 and that bonus offers are limited to a maximum of one hundred kronor. BOS remains critical of the proposal and calls on the government to withdraw it.

Te association's Gustaf Hoffstedt said: “Tere is nothing as permanent as a political promise of something temporary. Te temporary restrictions introduced this summer were justified by an alleged increase in online casinos. Tat did not turn out to be the case. Online casino activity didn’t increase, and sports betting decreased dramatically due to cancelled matches. Instead, it was gambling on horses that increased dramatically.”

“Everybody in the gambling market, such as the Swedish Gambling Authority, us and the government, knew this but unfortunately the

Russia unveils bill to unify gaming regulation and raise taxation

Russia

Russia’s State Duma is to vote on a proposal to set up a new national regulator which would control and regulate the whole Russian gambling industry.

Te bill was introduced by Viktor Deryabkin and Igor Stankevich of the governing United Russia party, was put before the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, Industry, Innovative Development and Entrepreneurship, which approved it on November 17.

Te bill is now scheduled for a first reading on the Duma floor before year’s end.

It would also see a one per cent increase in the tax applied to sports betting betting revenue

government persisted in the erroneous claim that online casino activity would increase and that special restrictions were therefore called for regarding that form of gambling. Betting on horses, on the other hand, was left protected from restrictions," he added.”

"Te consequences of the restrictions are twofold. First, high-volume players jump between more and more gambling companies to avoid the deposit limit. Tis makes it difficult for an individual company to get an overall picture of a player’s behaviour, which is a prerequisite for being able to take protective measures in the event of suspected problem gambling.

“Second, the high-volume players are leaving the Swedish licensing system in favour of the unregulated market, where there are no deposit limits. Even before the first restrictions were introduced this summer, the leakage from the Swedish licensing system was 25 per cent for online casinos. What the leak is today and what happens during the extended restriction is a scary thought. Te government throws the Swedish consumers out of the licensing system where protection is zero,” said Mr. Hoffstedt.

as well as a new minimum payment of RUB5m ($65,650) per sports league.

It would set up a single payment hub to replace the existing system to ensure real- time monitoring of all betting transactions.

Te new regulator would also be charged with 'improving the effectiveness of control and supervision in the field of gambling in order to increase funds, which will be directed to the Ministry of Culture and Sports' including 'monitoring and detecting' illegal online gambling activity.

Te proposal has already come under fire by licensed sports betting operators, who argue that the Duma would be breaking up a well-functioning system, whilst failing to boost funds for sports as betting companies would significantly reduce the amount they spend on sponsorships.

Kiron has won a landmark tender to supply its virtual sports content to Aktiebolaget Trav och Galopp (ATG) initially across the operator’s online channels in Sweden. Te decision follows a three-month procurement process in which Kiron was chosen over multiple competitors to integrate its full library of market-leading virtual games, including its recently launched Goal football and ice- hockey titles. Te supplier’s trotting, horse racing and motor racing games will also be provided, equipping ATG with a high-performing collection of virtual sports that offer quickfire, round-the-clock betting opportunities for local players. Te partnership with ATG, one of the region’s largest horse betting, sports betting and casino operators, comes as Kiron continues to make waves after being the first to launch virtuals in Colombia, Spain and South Africa within the last 12 months.
