ROSE WATSON FROM CUMBRIA SAYS THAT IT IS THE LASTING FRIENDSHIPS THAT MAKE CRAFTING EXTRA SPECIAL

“ I

’ve been crafting ever since I was a small child, and my first crafting love

was knitting; I used to enjoy making bathing costumes for my doll. I later progressed to other crafts such as crochet, quilting pictures and rag rugs, but about 20 years ago I found papercrafting after a friend and I went on a card-making course – we’ve been hooked ever since! My all-time favourite, however, is CD crafting, and I have numerous treasured pieces of artwork. At the moment, I’m finding that my biggest challenge is inking and distressing the CDs successfully.

“I was inspired to join Create and Craft after watching Joanna Sheen, as I loved her demonstrations and I think that her CD designs are amazing. I’ve been a member of the club almost from the beginning and I would recommend it to anyone, especially as it has good discounts and offers products that are great value for money.

“Crafting is a language

“My friend has a drop-in crafting session at a library in Frizington, Cumbria, which has helped me make many new and inspirational friends, where crafting is a universal language. I’ve also made friends through clubs on Facebook and by using the Create and Craft page; we all get on so well and I love to share my ideas and opinions on the latest gadgets with other members. “My friends and I meet every Friday, and although we mainly papercraft, you’ll also find us with wool, paint, glue, boxes, beads and much more. We love going to Bolton for Crafting Live as it’s great to meet so many crafters and join in with all the fun, even if it is quite far away from Cumbria. It was also my friends who introduced me to die cutting although I had resisted for a year or so. Now, I love it and use different dies to give my cards a new look.

“When I look back on my first efforts – which I thought were wonderful at the time

share my opinions on the latest gadgets” – I have to laugh because my makes have improved so much. My wonderful crafting friends and I have made some amazing projects now, and we even go out for meals to celebrate special occasions – or any occasion we can think of really!”
