Upcycle an old jar You will need:

l A clean jar l A pack of Simple Leaf Sheets in gold l Gold leaf adhesive l Stiff paint brush

1

Make sure your glass is clean and dry. Paint a very thin layer of gold leaf

adhesive to the jar, making sure that you only apply the adhesive to where you want the gold leaf to stick as this will determine the end finish.

2

Leave the adhesive to dry for five minutes. If you want an opaque finish,

leave it for up to 15 minutes. Turn your jar upside down so the opening is sitting on a flat surface. If your hands are a bit sticky or sweaty, rub on a bit of talcum powder as

gold leaf will stick to almost anything with moisture. Pick up the gold leaf using the tissue between the layer, and gently apply it to the jar, starting with the base. Use two or three sheets until you’ve covered the bottle, pressing down with the tissue paper as you go.

3 4

Gently press down on the gold leaf with a damp cloth. Leave for a further

two or three minutes.

Use your bristled brush to start removing the excess gold leaf. Don’t be

afraid to get rough with it – you can always repeat steps two to five if you would like to apply more. Apply a sealer like Modge Podge, if you would like.

“Gold leaf is one of my favourite materials – it’s so versatile, and

this is a great project for those new to the medium. Why not
