TRANSFORM AN ORDINARY HEADPIECE INTO A BEAUTIFUL FLORAL ACCESSORY WITH SARAH MILLSOP’S SPRING MAKE

T

his headband is not only a perfect festival staple, it can also be worn on other special

occasions like an outdoor party, a wedding or any event taking place during in the spring and summer.

Create a crowning touch You will need “

l Lucite Floral collection from Riverside Beads l Headband base l Gilt wire, 0.88mm l Flat nose pliers l Wire cutter l Seed beads

1

Take a section of wire, approximately 30-40cm, leaving a little extra for you to

hold onto (this will be trimmed later). Wrap the wire tightly and closely around a small section of the band to secure it – I recommend 4-5 turns. Ensure that a couple of inches of wire is left sticking out from the top of the band for the embellishments. You can trim the extra wire underneath the band for a neat finish. Do not leave the end of the wire on the underside of the band as it will be uncomfortable to wear.

2

If you wish to create a multi-layered effect, place a lucite flower on top of the

wire along with any smaller flowers. Put a seed bead in the centre of the lucite flower ensuring that the blossom is held securely onto the band.

Push the wire that’s left sticking out of the top of the band through the seed

bead hole, pulling it tightly until it creates a small loop to give a neat finish.

Wrap the remaining wire around the base 2-3 times to secure the flower.

Repeat steps 1-4 to create clusters of flowers along the band. Use smaller

flowers to fill gaps and hide the band and wire.

5 3 Top tip

Decide how many embellishments you’d like to add onto your headband. Why not place a cluster of flowers to the side and apply an accent or two for a modest look? Or you can go all-out and cover your make with a few layers of blooms.
