TOP TIP
Why not use this technique on a plain white scoop neck T-shirt using buttons in a rainbow of colours?
Wendy says: “Animal prints have been popular for a while now and I have several items of clothing
featuring various spots and stripes. However, I thought this particular top could do with a bit of a revamp, and so with a nod to the punk rock era I settled on a simple crafty project that anyone can get their claws into!”
Rock chick chic
You will need
l Safety pins in different sizes l Shank buttons of your choice
1
Arrange the safety pins and buttons around the neckline of your garment
until you are happy with the spacing and colour placements. You could either place the different sizes of safety pins randomly or grade them from large to small.
2
Open up safety pin and thread a button on, pin to the garment and close.
Repeat with all of your safety pins. Make sure that you space the safety pins evenly and keep the top of the pins flush with the edge of the neckline material.
Sew on a sunset
You will need
l A variety of fabric l Fabric glue l A sewing machine and/or acrylic drops
1
Cut out a circle shape – approximately 7in diameter. With the wrong side of your
chosen ‘sky’ fabric facing upwards, place the circle on top and draw some random ‘fingers’ going out to each side. Cut this out.
2
Position your sun and sky pieces on the back of the shirt. From another piece of
fabric cut out two random strips that will serve as the ground/hills/grass/sand/ocean. Put these in place and make sure you are happy with the spacing and overall look of your sunset scene. Keeping all the pieces of fabric in place, turn over the edges and paint on a thin layer of fabric glue.
3
Stitch around the sun and the two strips of grass. To give an edge to the sky I used
a Pinflair Pearl Wand. This seals the edges of the fabric and can be washed at 30 degrees.
