reate and Craft is all about bringing our passionate members
the latest products at the best prices – and to do this, our buying team travels the world in search of the gadgets, gizmos, designers and trends we know you’ll love. Buyers Julie Bailes, Rebecca
Huxtable and Sam Gollings have been busy scouring the latest trade shows to see what’s new in the world of craft. “The shows are really important,” says Julie. “They are great opportunities to see what’s going on in the industry and to meet current and new companies all under one roof.” As well as being innovation and
design hubs, the shows are also fantastic ways to spread the Create and Craft word. Rebecca says: “It is so important to us to let people from all around the world know about Create and Craft – about what we do and why it is amazing to be a part of the channel.” Most recently, the team upped
sticks and flew across the Atlantic to enjoy the delights of Phoenix Creativation Show. “Most of the exhibitors in Phoenix were American, including We R Memory Keepers and Altenew who were there showing their latest innovative products,” says Sam. “It looks like tools are going to be really big from a product point of view, and there were lots of stamp and die companies, too.” Back in Europe, a trip to Germany
proved that the natural world is still a hot trend, as Rebecca explains: “Creativeworld in Frankfurt always reveals the upcoming trends for the craft market, and one that I noticed in particular was The Gardener – here, nature is a primary influence on patterns, colour palettes and designs, with floral, leaves and insects, and greens and autumnal tones being at the forefront.” This pretty, earthy trend is juxtaposed with The Purist. “This is all about minimalistic style, monochrome, and simple line and polka dot patterns,” says Rebecca.

Sam Gollings really enjoyed visiting the Phoenix show, and not just because he got to go Stateside! “It’s great to see new products in action, not just pictures of them,” he says. “I saw Vicki Boutin demonstrate her new mixed media range, including her
crayons and it was amazing! It was also a great chance for me to get crafty and get hands-on myself with products. “I had lots of meetings, and did lots of talking
and, importantly, crafting. The shows are our chance to secure the latest and greatest products at the best prices exclusively for our members.”
What should we be looking
out for? “We R Memory Keepers has some amazing new tools that I can’t wait for our members to see. We will also be bringing to the club innovative stamp and foil designs from Thermoweb and Gina K. Of course, Altenew was as impressive as ever, and they’ve got some beautiful stamp sets that I know our members will love. We’re in talks with some other innovators in the world of stamping, too, so watch this space to see who else is coming on board this year.”
Are there any gadgets and
gizmos that caught your eye? “We R Memory Keepers USB powered tools! New Precision press and The Wire Jig are all super
cool. The stamp and foil techniques from Gina K really caught my eye, and Vicki Boutin is amazing with her mixed media range. If you haven’t done mixed media before, or have been put off trying it because it seems too tricky, then her range is aimed at everyone from beginners to the advanced and all her products work together; it’s super-easy and simple.”
When will we see them on
Create and Craft? “You’ll have seen some already, such as Kelly Creates, and you’ll start to see others like Gina K,Thermoweb and Vicki Boutin. I also loved Lia Griffith’s designs; we’ve included some of her projects on page 56. Then, of course, there were some of our tried-and-tested favourites such as We R Memory Keepers, Ranger and Plaid.”
