piping delicate flowers always keep the thinner end of the nozzle facing outwards. This will create a thinner looking petal.
Colour some buttercream with yellow food colouring. Using the Wilton nozzle set,
place nozzle 103 into a disposable piping bag then fill it up to halfway with the buttercream. Note that the nozzle is shaped like a teardrop, with a fatter end and a pointy end, so when

[Using a nail] To make the first petal, start at the centre and pipe outwards – about 1.5cm – then pipe back to the centre. [1]
Create two more petals in the same way leaving a small, even gap between each petal – this forms the first stage of the flower. [2]
Repeat the process and pipe three more petals in the gaps, so that they slightly

overlap the first three petals. Be careful not to get too close and knock them! [3]

Now create the daffodil trumpet. Hold the nozzle towards the centre of
the petals, with the thin end pointing up and, as you turn the nail, create a cylinder shape about 1cm across. Move your piping hand a little as well, so you create a slight frill effect. This is the daffodil trumpet [4]. Stand back and admire your work – good job!

Make some
Colour some buttercream with violet and half fill a disposable piping bag.
Attach nozzle 81, which is a C-shape. To pipe the first petal, make sure the the C is on its side. Push the buttercream out and move along the cake. When the petal is about 1cm, start to lift the nozzle to create a curl.
2
Making sure that the C-shape is facing down, pipe along the first petal from the
base. When you get to the curl of the first petal, pull the nozzle away and slightly down the flower. Create the third petal in the same way, on the other side.
3
Make the fourth petal in the same way, but start the piping and the base of the flower in between the other two petals.

TOP TIPS
l If you have never piped before, I would recom- mend practising first, and then decorating some cupcakes before decorating the large cake.
l I pre-iced this cake. The board is the same size as the cake so I have iced down the side of the board and cake so it looks like one.
