While Reading
You are about to read an extract from the graphic novel This One Summer by Jillian and Mariko Tamaki. The extract begins with the two main characters relaxing and spending time together. Rose is sitting at the table and Windy is asking her about pop.
In your first-year English class, you learned about guttering (the space between the panels on the page) as well as colour tone (how the colours used can reflect the atmosphere of the story). While reading this extract: 1. Find the page that has the most panels. What effect does a page with a lot of panels have?
2. Make a note of the colours used by the authors. Do you think they reflect the atmosphere of the story?
