Example 2: Alex’s eyes stretched open, and she had to sit down. She stared at a point on the wall for some time, and then scratched her elbow. She took a deep breath, and then she took an even deeper breath. She took her phone out of her pocket and started scrolling. She creased her forehead and jammed her tongue into the side of her mouth. She put her phone back in her pocket.
In the first example, we are told that Alex was uncertain. In the second example the author shows us that Alex was uncertain; the author does this though her descriptions.
