Read the extract which follows. It features the title characters from Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet. The setting is late at night, after a party hosted by Juliet’s parents, Lord and Lady Capulet. Romeo (from the Montague family) and Juliet (from the Capulet family) first met at the party. They immediately fell for each other, but quickly realised that they belong to rival – even warring – families. As the extract begins, Romeo is wandering in the orchard of the Capulets’ house when Juliet appears, above, on a balcony overlooking the orchard.
