I feel relief. We are all champions! Anyone who steps in between those ropes are champions. Every fight has been a tough fight, every fight has been a gold medal fight. It is just fantastic. I just can’t wait to get back home, sit on the couch to sleep, to rest. I am absolutely exhausted to be honest. I am like a fluffy pigeon going around, I’m that grey at this stage! What a journey. It’s just fantastic, absolutely fantastic.
EH: KH:
You said the final mile is rarely crowded. The final mile was crowded today Kellie because the entire country was in your corner. What do you want to say to them back home?
There have been times in my career when people say, ‘the whole country is behind you’. This time, I really, really feel the whole country is behind me! People might say that it was pressure, you know, it might feel like you have a big weight on your shoulders, but I actually really didn’t. I knew, no matter what happened out here today, whether it was gold or silver or whatever, I knew I’ve made myself proud, and I have made the people of Ireland proud, regardless of the colour of the medal. Just being here and putting our little nation on the map, this is the stuff of dreams.
EH: A very quick word – assess your performance, Kenny called it the performance of a lifetime back in studio. That second round – was that the finest round you’ve ever fought?
